Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) recently completed the 1st package of King Abdullah II Parks project that included installing fences, gates, water harvesting and gray water tanks, and other repairing works in the location.
Executive Director of Engineering in GAM, Ibrahim Hashem, clarified that the whole idea of the project located between Al Mgabalein region, on the western side of Jordan TV and Radio, on a piece of land with space area of 505 dunums, came up from the incessant need for setting up a park in the east of Amman.
He declared that the 2nd package is tendered and consists of a space area of 178,000 m2, and will include founding parking lots for about 900 cars on 63,000 m2, sports area on 79,000 m2, a football playground with international measures and stadiums, slopes for skating, lanes for bike cycling and running, and playgrounds for tennis, basketball, and volleyball.
Engineer Hashem added that the components and elements of the 2nd package, which represent one third of the space area of the whole project, include infrastructural works, namely, water networks, sewage system, watering, electricity, and retaining walls, and coordination works for the site.
The main pathway will be constructed on 20,000 m2, and the main pathways surrounding the hill, and a retaining wall adjacent to the pathway, all shall be built on a space area of 13,000 m2, not to forget the buildings of the sports services, public facilities and electricity services units.
Through this project, GAM aims at creating a balance in the distribution of urban spaces and services, and green areas in all parts of the city, reducing, at the same time, the pressure upon Al Hussein Parks, which eventually shall ease the burden off roads, transportations, and infrastructure. This, in itself, shall help GAM realize an integrated vision for the “City Park” concept in terms of the theme and the creative design which considers the city park as a vital space that embraces all activities and events.
The design idea of the project is based on creating a green park with an architectural formation that consists of main and branching pathways to meet in a main yard which will constitute the heart (the middle) of the project, in addition to the new topographic formation which will echo that of hills with different heights embracing the buildings and the green spaces.
