gems school strikes a chord “downtown”
GEMS Wellington Primary School a big draw with residents of new downtown developments
GEMS Wellington Primary School, the new British curriculum school set to open in September 2007, has elicited an overwhelming response from parents, indicating a clear preference for city-based schools among Dubai residents.
Situated close to Sheikh Zayed Road, the GEMS Wellington Primary School (GWPS) will offer quality primary education based on the National Curriculum of England to children from Foundation Stage to Year Six.
Residents and office workers of the city’s new downtown in the vicinity of Burj Dubai stand to benefit the most from the new school, as it provides them with a world-class facility closer to home and their place of work. The Admissions Office at the school campus has seen a steady stream of applicants since its opening last week.
“As expected, we are seeing a high level of interest among parents who live and work in Downtown Dubai, which shows a clear need for more high quality schools in that area. Given the recent concerns over long drives to and from schools, it is no wonder that facilities closer to home are a natural choice,” said Ann Waite, Principal of GEMS Wellington Primary School.
The school was originally proposed as GEMS Jumeirah Primary City School, but has since changed the name to GEMS Wellington Primary School.
GEMS, the largest provider of education in the Middle East, has modeled the new school on its respected Jumeirah Primary School and the Wellington International School in Dubai. The new campus, which has state-of-the-art facilities and resources that support the highest standards of education, as well as a varied programme of sports, performing arts, visual arts and other extra curricular activities, is located in Satwa, behind the Shangri-La Hotel.
“Rapidly developing cities like Dubai need easier and faster access to quality education. The GEMS Wellington Primary School will bring proven quality standards and the GEMS heritage to the growing city-based population of Dubai,” Waite added.
