In the spirit of Ramadan, Google Arabia has announced the release of customized Chrome extensions, programs developed to add functionality to the Google Chrome browser and websites you visit to allow MENA users quick access to relevant information. To accompany the Chrome extensions and add to a more personalized experience, Google Chrome users can also adopt Ramadan themes for their web-browser.

The Google Arabia team worked closely with developers from around the region to build Google Chrome Extensions specifically for the MENA region and Arabic speaking users globally. These include Arabic news, Soccer, Jokes, Quotes, Video,, Arabic Forums. Google also developed a couple that are Ramadan specific including Prayer Times and the Ramadan Doa'a. Simply visit the Chrome Extensions Gallery and search for the extension you want to install.

Commenting on the Ramadan Chrome Extensions, Wael Ghonim, Google's Regional Product and Marketing Manager, MENA, stated: "We are constantly thinking of ways we can develop and adapt products for the region in order to make the online world accessible, and more importantly, personal to our users. As we increasingly use the Internet as part of our daily routine, we want localized content and products that cater to our social and cultural norms. This is exactly what we had in mind when designing the Chrome Extension and Ramadan Chrome Themes, as we sought to provide users who observe this time with tools that will enhance their experience."

Extensions let you add new features and functions to your browser and the websites you visit. Some provide one-click access to some of your favorite web applications or news and information sources. Others are useful tweaks for performing common online tasks such as browsing photos, getting directions or receiving alerts and notifications.

The process is very simple with users adding a button next to the Page and Tools menu for quick access and updates on preferred sites, regardless of what page they are visiting.

Extensions are a unique tool to Google Chrome, a new open source browser based on both simplicity and efficiency allowing for users to search and navigate the web in the quickest way possible. When users open a new tab in Google Chrome, they'll see a page that includes snapshots of their most-visited sites, recent searches and bookmarks, providing easy navigation of the web.
