Two Syrian refugees questioned by Greek authorities on suspicion of belonging to Daesh were released Thursday, local media reported.
The men were arrested Tuesday after authorities on the island of Kos found photographs of Daesh banners and an image of one of the men standing in front of a black flag on their mobile phones.
They had crossed to Kos, a popular goal for refugees leaving from Turkey’s western coast, in a small boat with other refugees.
They were detained after they were seen acting suspiciously as they were processed at an identification center.
According to the Protothema newspaper, one of the men said he opposed the Syrian regime but did not admit any allegiance to Daesh.
The Ekathimerini news website cited sources as saying the men may have been members of an armed group fighting against President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
