The Moroccan film director, Hassan Benjelloun, took part in a conference devoted to African Cinema, titled "Africa XL", which was held lately in Brussels. The event was organized by the city of Brussels in partnership with the Liaison Office of francophone cinema.

The inaugural edition of this film festival was marked by the projection of a large variety of long and short movies, including Hassan Benjelloun's film, "darkroom", which was already preceded during the last edition of the African Film Festival of Ouagadougou.

Yabiladi reports that this festival was also marked by an open debate on the topic "To film Africa today, to film in Africa today", attended by film directors, scenario writers and other African professionals. The participants spoke about the situation of African cinema today and its continuous problems of financing and diffusion (especially in Europe, where African films remain confined to specialized festival circuits).
