Jacques Berque Center for Humanitarian and Social Sciences in Rabat has recently organized a meeting with Hassan Rachik, a professor of anthropology in the Faculty of Law, Economy and Social Sciences at the University of Casablanca. The meeting, which was held in the Center’s reading-room, reports EMarrakech, dealt with Hassan’s latest book "Symbolizing the Nation: An essay on the use of collective identities in Morocco".
The book, published in May 2003, tries to examine the cultural-political processes that were initiated in Morocco, starting from the beginning of the previous century, by various political players, in order to reinforce the bond and the allegiance of Moroccans to their nation.
