Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) students have exerted great effort and efficiency operating through the Knowledge Surprises Week of Dubai Summer Surprises. The students praised the support and the welcoming approach put forth by Emirates Cable TV and Multimedia (E-Vision), the leading cable provider in the region.
E-Vision’s efforts during this event focused on providing the students with the guidelines, training, support, and supervision to help familiarize them with new and innovative technologies. E-Vision sent the students to its Manipulation Control Centre (MCC) in Al Dhaid district in Sharjah, where workshops and training sessions were provided to students on handling cameras and production.
Moreover E-vision provided a dedicated channel (333) for all the material broadcast live by students during the week from their main TV studio at Deira City Centre, which had live feeds from six remote studios in other shopping malls.
Mr. Humaid Rashid Sahoo, Chief Executive Officer - E-Vision, said: “The aim of this programme is to identify and encourage those students with the special qualities that will enhance the unique character of the cable industry over the coming future. By providing for them the practical experience, we are also contributing to the preparation of the qualified national workforce.”
An important aspect of the Programme for E-Vision is that it will encourage the teaching and learning of innovative technology practices. “This programme will help develop a knowledge base for the cable and TV industry among students,” Mr. Sahoo added. “By attracting nationals and raising their interest in technology in general, and the cable industry in specific, we are fulfilling our aim of developing a system tailored to the specific needs of this country. We want E-Vision’s system to set the highest standards in the cable industry but at the same time retain its own individual character.”
E-Vision’s initiative provides the students with practical experience and training for their college courses thus satisfying the aim of preparing students for employment after graduation.
Mr Michel Bekhazi, Head of College Services, Dubai Men's College, said: “The partnership between the Higher Colleges of Technology / Dubai Men's College and E-VISION resulted in an interesting hands-on project that involved the students on a daily basis. The skill development that the students received as an offset to this involvement is equal to none.”
"The aim of Dubai Men's College is to produce competent and reliable work force candidates. The time our students spent collaborating with E-VISION is an assurance that their effectiveness in the work place will materialize.” added Mr. Bekhazi.
E-Vision was established in April 2000 as the UAE’s only cable provider, and is a subsidiary of the Emirates Telecommunication’s corporation.
With an initial coverage of 20,000 homes, E-Vision’s services currently reach 300,000 homes across five emirates: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Al Ain and Ajman, with a solid 500,000 viewers.
E-Vision has partnerships with major entertainment providers such as Arab Digital Distribution (ADD), Showtime and Orbit, in addition to four channels of its own in e-junior, the kids channel; e-View, the Pay Per View service; e-Games, the interactive channel; and the Information Channel.
