US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs-of-Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey is set to meet a number of Israeli officials in Tel Aviv on Tuesday to discuss bilateral security cooperation.
Dempsey, who arrived in the country on Monday at the invitation of Israeli Army Chief-of-Staff Gadi Eisenkot, is scheduled to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon, according to Israeli Radio.
“He [Dempsey] will also meet with senior military and security officials in Israel to discuss joint security cooperation between the two countries,” the broadcaster reported.
In a related development, Israeli daily Haaretz on Tuesday reported that US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director John Brennanhad made an unannounced visit to Israel last week.
“The CIA chief, a guest of Mossad chief Tamir Pardo, met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu,” the paper reported.
According to Haaretz, Brennan’s visit dealt mainly with an anticipated agreement between world powers and Iran over the latter’s nuclear energy program.
