ALBAWABA - Heavy snowfall covered South Korea for the second day in a row on Thursday, killing four people and halting flights and ferry services, officials said.
According to officials, the snow killed three people in Gyeonggi province, which surrounds the capital Seoul, including one who died when a tent-style garage collapsed as snow clearing was underway.
At least two additional people were killed in traffic incidents on roadways east of the city, according to reports. According to police, a 53-vehicle pile-up on a highway in the central city of Wonju, in the Gangwon province, on Wednesday night injured 11 persons.
According to flight tracking website Flightradar24, 14% of flights were delayed and 15% were canceled on Thursday, with passengers experiencing delays of two hours on average at Seoul's main airport, Incheon.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, Seoul experienced its greatest November snowfall since records began more than a century ago on Wednesday, which preceded the second day of snow. It was also the first snowfall of the season in the capital.
The city government sent out 11,000 workers and 20,000 pieces of equipment to remove snow from the capital after the second snowfall day. By the end of Wednesday, 46 of the 131 temporary power disruptions reported by authorities had been restored.
The Korea Meteorological Administration reported that although the heavy snow alert was canceled in Seoul, it was still in force in several southern regions outside the capital, with snowfall continuing at a rate of about one centimeter per hour in certain places.
