Iraqi President Jalal Talabani arrived in Tehran on Monday at the head of a high-ranking political and economic delegation for an official visit. This is the first visit by Iraqi president in Iran since the end of the 1960s. Talabani was welcomed by Iran's Minister of Industries and Mines Ali-Reza Tahmasbi at Tehran International Mehrabad Airport, IRNA reported.
Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was to extend an official welcome to his Iraqi counterpart within few hours after which the two presidents will hold first round of talks.
While in the Iranian capital, the Iraqi president is scheduled to discuss bilateral relations and key developments in the region with senior Iranian officials including former president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, Secretary of Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani and Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki.
