In India, fifty people were feared dead when a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation bus fell into the Almatti canal, located some 60 kilometers from Bijapur in north Karnataka, a senior police official said. The accident took place at around 3.00 am on Monday.
The bus was proceeding from Hubli to Chitapur in Gulbarga district, Bijapur district Superintendent of Police S K Singh said. Rescue and relief operations have been launched, using the local fishermen and others, he added. Four bodies have already been recovered.
