Innovation, education marks DOHALAND interaction with the youth

DOHALAND’s presence was marked by its youth and their youthful ideas represented right through from the booth to the colours that represent their perspective of working at DOHALAND. Reiterating its five pillars of Heritage & Culture, Innovation, Sustainability, Enrichment and Environment, a conventional booth was transformed with specks of orange displayed through the messaging, denoting youth and energy. The Career Fair booth, originally a section of the booth used in Q-REX 2010, was recycled for the event.

The visitors would have been further inspired by the fact that DOHALAND’s committee charged with preparing for the Career Fair was made up of recruits from Career Fair 2009, whose feedback and contributions were a major factor in ensuring DOHALAND’s unique presence at this year’s edition.

The DOHALAND stand offered an option of hangers to get bags out of the way. The idea came about during brainstorming sessions of the organizing team which included Nationals hired by DOHALAND during last years’ Career Fair. Their personal experience of carrying/ holding bags while surfing laptops was distracting, and the solution was to allow visitors to better focus on the task at hand.

Also unique was the fact that the DOHALAND booth offered no brochures or pamphlets. “It is all about sharing knowledge and interacting with people. Brochures and pamphlets will be thrown away and forgotten. What will last is the power of communication and the stories we share. At the Qatar Career Fair we are representing what we stand for at DOHALAND,” says Maryam Al Mansoori, HR Manager-DOHALAND.
Visitors were introduced to the various facets of DOHALANDS’s corporate culture; winning clips from a DOHALAND internal video competition ‘Through Your Eyes’ were displayed during the exhibition. Inspired by the DOHALAND pillar - Innovation, Through Your Eyes was an internal video competition where DOHALAND employees were encouraged to step into the shoes for their favourite director or actor and create a movie portraying their personal perspective of DOHALAND’s workplace answering the question “What is Your DOHALAND?”

DOHALAND’s participation in this year’s Qatar Career Fair focused on the motto ‘Developing Together, and on harnessing the passion of young Qatari nationals and spurring them to grow and develop their potential while relishing the challenges of today’s work environment.


The biggest surprise to visitors of the DOHALAND booth was the incredible gift bags they received. Unlike the traditional ‘company merchandise’ usually handed out at these events, DOHALAND gave these young Qataris various tools to enrich their experience and encourage learning and development, handing each a personal organizer designed in-house by the young Nationals to help plan ahead.

The gift box contains a note pad with a weekly planner, with a zany blurb – My spirit this week is: High, Medium, Low – that is sure to set your day off on a great note. The box also contained Innovative Post Its titled – Notes to Self, Never, Now and Later; Notes to Go and Don’t Forget To….

“We believe these are valuable gifts, tools that will help our youth hone their skills and continue learning new things. It is our duty to give them the tools, and their duty to utilize them effectively,” concluded Maryam Al Mansoori.

DOHALAND also organized visits from the Qatar Career Fair to the Knowledge Enrichment Centre, the company’s CSR commitment. The recently launched Knowledge Enrichment Centre, has fulfilled Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al Missned’s wish to create a common platform to share with people the three-year long study and research that has gone behind the creation of a new Qatari architectural language.
