Nearly 200 prominent individuals in government, business, academia, policy, media and the armed forces from India and the world will gather at the India Global Forum, organised by The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), in association with Citi (formerly Citigroup), on 18-20 April 2008 in New Delhi.

The Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, has kindly agreed to host a reception for key conference delegates. Mr. Kamal Nath, Minister for Commerce and Industry, will deliver the Opening Dinner Address.

'There is a great deal of interest in India as a Rising Great Power. The IISS is delighted to be joining forces with Citi to convene the India Global Forum, that will provide an opportunity to examine  how India's strategic culture will develop to support a more extrovert role in international affairs. Gathering together key members of India's elite with outside commentators and political actors from North America, Europe, the Gulf and Asia, the India Global Forum will provide a comprehensive strategic assessment of India's impact on the world stage,' said Dr John Chipman CMG, Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the IISS.

While the plenary sessions and formal addresses of the conference offer a public platform for ministers, corporate leaders and global experts to focus on India's emerging role, the break-out groups provide an opportunity for the invited officials and experts to explore the key issues more deeply and to analyse current and future policy trends in a private setting.

‘We are excited about this unique opportunity to jointly convene The IISS-Citi India Global Forum. It will bring together global influencers and thought leaders onto a common platform to discuss themes from a diverse spectrum of disciplines that converge to drive India's public policy and its influence on the world stage. India is a key part of Citi’s global strategy and this initiative offers us another opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to India’s development,’ according to Sanjay Nayar, Chief Executive Officer of Citi India and Area Head, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal.

To date, the key speakers include Sir Win Bischoff, Chairman, Citi; M.K. Narayanan, National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister of India; Admiral Sureesh Mehta, Chairman, Chiefs of Staff Committee and Chief of Naval Staff, India; Dr. Sanjaya Baru, Official Spokesman and Media Advisor to the Prime Minister of India; Jaswant Singh,  Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, India; Carl Bildt, Foreign Minister of Sweden; Lord Powell of Bayswater, former Advisor on Foreign Affairs and Defence to British Prime Ministers Thatcher and Major; Jeffrey R.
