Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini said Sunday that a change in US policy toward Iran will create opportunity to resolve outstanding issues between Tehran and Washington.

Asked about Iran's response to a call made by the US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to hold talks with Tehran without precondition, he said, "Rice's statement was not clear. At the same time, she raised suspension of uranium enrichment as a precondition for holding negotiations with Iran."

According to IRNA, Hosseini said that Rice's remark was not something new, adding, "Washington had raised similar overture in the past concerning Iranian nuclear program and Tehran has given response to it so far." On Rice's new remarks on the region and Iran, the spokesman said, "The statement showed that the US Administration has attempted to confront Iraqi neighboring states rather than help establish stability in Iraq.

"Under such circumstances, it will be meaningless (for Mrs. Rice) to speak of talks."
