Iran and the P5+1 group of world powers continue their talks on the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program in the Austrian capital of Vienna.

As part of a fresh round of negotiations between the two sides, Iranian deputy foreign ministers Abbas Araqchi and Madjid Takht-e-Ravanchi met on Wednesday with EU Political Director Helga Schmid.

Iran and the P5+1 countries – the United States, Britain, France, China and Russia plus Germany – are seeking to arrive at a comprehensive deal over Tehran’s nuclear program by June 30. Tehran and its negotiating partners have been working on the text of the final deal since they reached a mutual understanding on key parameters of such an accord in the Swiss city of Lausanne on April 2.

The Wednesday meeting ended after almost one hour. Experts from all sides later started technical discussions. The expert teams had also met for four hours on Tuesday.

The discussions are to continue until Friday. The Iranian deputy ministers and the EU official are scheduled to be joined later in the week by P5+1 political directors.

The talks have focused on a timetable for the removal of anti-Iran sanctions as well as the mechanisms for Tehran to implement its nuclear commitments under a potential final deal.
