Iran president: US efforts to gain hegemony lead to regional problems

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said late Wednesday in New York the ongoing developments in the Middle East stem from efforts made by certain powers to dominate a logic of hegemony in the region.

In a meeting with his Chilean counterpart Ricardo Lagos on the sidelines of the UN world summit, Ahmadinejad mentioned claims made by occupiers of Iraq on establishment of stability and security in that country. "Americans are justifying their presence through creating insecurity in Iraq and making life more difficult for the oppressed and innocent nation. "They support terrorists, agents behind murders and insecurity directly or indirectly."

He added, in comments published by IRNA on Thursday, "Certain powers strive to monopolize welfare and progress and dominate nations by imposing poverty and war on others. "The Iranian nation regards this approach as a system of hegemony."

In another meeting, Ahmadinejad voiced Iran's readiness to transfer peaceful nuclear technology to Islamic states. The president made the remark in a meeting with Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Referring to the decrease of fossil fuel reserves and the country's need to use at least 20,000 MW of electricity, he said, "The Islamic Republic never seeks weapons of mass destruction and with respect to the needs of Islamic countries, we are ready to transfer nuclear know-how to these countries."
