Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Monday that Iran-Syria common views would help resolve regional issues and restore durable peace to the Middle East region. Mottaki made the remarks after his meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

The two sides' common views also help restore peace to the region, Mottaki underlined, according to IRNA.

Speaking at a joint press conference with his Syrian counterpart Walid Mouallem at the Syrian Foreign Ministry, he said "friendly and strategic" ties between the two countries have prepared grounds for continued negotiations and exchange of views between the two sides' officials.

Calling his meeting with the Syrian president as very good, he said during the meeting the two sides reviewed regional developments, the visit of the Syrian president to Turkey, Caspian Sea littoral states summit in Tehran, developments in northern Iraq, upcoming conference on Iraq's neighboring states in Istanbul as well as current developments in Lebanon and Palestine.

Iran's foreign minister heading a delegation arrived on Monday in Damascus for a one-day visit and conferred with the country's president and foreign minister on issues of mutual interests as well as regional developments.
