Iranian president Ebrahim Raisi dies in plane crash

ALBAWABA - Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi was confirmed dead in the helicopter crash that happened on Sunday, Iranian media reported Monday, Mehr News reported.

According to the Iranian news agency, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Iran's East Azerbaijan Province Governor Malek Rahmati, and Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Ale-Hashem, the representative of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution to East Azarbaijan province, and some other people were all also killed in the incident.

After hours of searching and rescue work, the wreckage of the helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and several other Iranian officials was found an hour ago, Iranian state news agency IRINN and semi-official news agency Mehr News reported.

Iranian state television reported this morning that a helicopter crash involving Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, and Iran's Foreign Minister left no survivors.

In addition to Iran's president, the helicopter was carrying a number of high-profile Iranian officials including Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and the Friday prayers leader of Tabriz, Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Al-e-Hashem.

According to Iranian media, about 73 rescue teams were searching for the helicopter that crashed near the village of Tavil in Iran's East Azerbaijan province, Pir-Hossein Kolivand, head of the Iranian Red Crescent said.
