Iranian police have found the body of a woman recently strangled to death with her Islamic headscarf, despite the arrest of a man who confessed to 16 similar murders, reported the official Iranian news agency, IRNA.
The agency said that the number of prostitutes killed so far has reached 21, all killed in one style.
It said that all, except one, had been strangled to death with their own headscarves and their dead bodies wrapped in their traditional black chador, or full-length gown.
Nineteen of the murders were committed in the holy city of Mashhad, while two have lately been reported in Tehran.
A report by the daily Entekhab was cited by the agency as saying that the body of the 21st victim was found last Wednesday night in the western district of Shahrak-e Azmayesh.
Police have started an investigation into the case, Entekhab said.
On Sunday, Jaam-e Jam daily reported the body of a woman strangled to death with her headscarf was found beside a highway in Tehran.
The latest murders in Tehran come only days after police said they had arrested a man in connection with the murders and who confessed to having murdered 16 of the 19 victims in Mashhad.
The suspect, a 39-year-old bricklayer, who doctors said was impotent, confessed to killing the women to "clean up" his neighborhood, according to the police. Investigators said the confessed murderer suffered from psychological problems – Albawaba.com
