A diplomat from the United Arab Emirates embassy in Iraq has gone missing in Iraq, according to a Foreign Ministry official in Abu Dhabi. "We believe he has been kidnapped," suggested the source, according to WAM. The source added "the UAE has been actively involved in humanitarian efforts in Iraq, working closely with the Iraqi government and regional states on safeguarding Iraq's unity."

Naji Rashid al-Nuaimi, 28, the diplomat, was abducted by gunmen Tuesday night while leaving the home of the United Arab Emirates' cultural affairs attache in Baghdad's Mansour district, said Interior Ministry police Col. Ali Rashid. The gunmen, riding in three cars, shot al-Nuaimi's Sudanese security guard, Bedawi Ahmed Ibrahim, who later died at a Baghdad hospital, Rashid said.

Iraqi forces were reportedly searching on Wednesday for the diplomat.

According to the AP, two roadside bombs and a drive-by shooting, meanwhile, targeted Iraqi forces in Baghdad on Wednesday, injuring two troops and three policemen. The bodies of two Iraqi men, handcuffed and shot in the head, were found in western Baghdad.
