Four American troops died and two injured by a roadside bomb near the Syrian border. The attack took place on Thursday in Tal Afar city, 150 kilometers east of the Syrian border.

Four other American soldiers were injured when their Humvee crashed during a nighttime operation west of Baghdad, the U.S. military said Saturday.

Elsewhere, Iraq's neighbors met in Turkey on Saturday to hail the formation of Iraq's new government. Jordan, Syria, Kuwait, Iran, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Egypt were expected to stress the need for security on Iraq's borders and welcome international support for the development of Iraq.

Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim Jaafari, who had said he wanted to attend the gathering, informed the Turkish hosts that he would not be able to come because of ongoing efforts to complete the government line-up.
