Iraq: Marine killed as US Army says working on upgrade of armored vehicles

One US Marine was killed in combat in Iraq's western Anbar province, the military said Friday. The Marine was killed "while conducting security and stabilisation operations in the Anbar Province," the US Army said in its statement.

Meanwhile, US military officials said Thursday they were working to upgrade the armor on Army vehicles in Iraq. Close to three-quarters of the Humvees in the Iraq war now have upgraded armor protection, but many larger trucks and tractor-trailer rigs do not, according to congressional figures, the AP reported.

Military officials said that armoring Humvees has been the top priority because they are used to patrol regions where attacks are frequent.
