The Iraqi cabinet decided Tuesday that government employees residing in militant controlled areas will not receive their salaries because of difficulties on the ground, AFP reports.
“Employees in areas not subject to government control” will have their salaries withheld and “distributed to them after the end of military operations,” said a cabinet statement.
Militants from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant have taken over several Iraqi towns in the past week, with Iraqi security forces struggling to keep them at bay.
