Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi told reporters that his country had credible intelligence that Islamic State members were planning to attack Paris' iconic Metro and subway systems in the United States, according to reports.

Reuters reported that Abadi said captured militants had provided the information, and that he had found it credible. Reuters and the BBC both reported that U.S. officials said they had no evidence to substantiate Abadi's claim. The Iraqi premier was speaking to reporters Thursday from the UN General Assembly in New York.

France and the United States are both involved in air attacks against IS targets.

The BBC said one Iraqi official had described the alleged plan to attack the Paris subway system as "imminent."
