Israel will release nine Jordanian detainees currently held in Israeli prisons, Israeli media reported Sunday.
"The detainees were not involved in launching military operations on Israeli targets," the media quoted sources as saying, adding that "the inmates spent one-third of their imprisonement in Israeli jails."
Meanwhile, Israel announced on Sunday its determination to activate joint Israeli-Palestinian cooperation committees, set up in the last Sharm El-Sheikh summit between Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon, according to Israeli media.
Israeli prime minister Advisor Dov Vaisglas is heading the Israeli negotiations staff where he is expected to meet Monday with his Palestinian counterpart Dr. Saeb Ureqat to possibly resume talks.
The committees were formed to look upon security relations and the release of prisoners of the two sides. Another committee was formed to hand over occupied Palestinian cities in the West Bank to the Palestinians, Israeli media said. Other joint economic committees were expected to be formed to coordinate in the separation plan where Minister Mohammed Dahlan heads the Palestinian side to meet with Israel Deputy PM Shimon Peres.
