Israel has lifted its closure on the West Bank and granted open access to Jerusalem's holiest shrine. According to the AP, police said thousands of policemen and troops will remain on high alert but reported no disturbances Wednesday as calm returned. Israel sealed off the territory last week.
Wednesday's measures came a day after the heaviest clashes in months broke out across the city. The Israeli police used stun grenades, tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse hundreds of stone-hurling protestors in East Jerusalem, leaving dozens of Palestinians injured. Some 10 police officers were also wounded.
