Israel Premier denies heart attack rumors

Israel's Prime Minister Ariel Sharon denied rumors Sunday claiming he had suffered a heart attack. Rumors spread Sunday among anti-pullout circles, saying the Israeli premier has suffered a stroke and had been transferred to hospital during a cabinet session. Sharon appeared at the meeting, cynically saying, “I would like to calm or disappoint you all”.

During the meeting, Sharon’s aides informed the premier about the rumors that quickly spread among extreme right-wing circles. The prime minister reportedly surprised the ministers, asked to stop the political discussion and to deny the rumors. “I would like to make a comment”, he said. “I heard a rumor I was not here, but rather in the hospital,” he said and laughed. “Not so fast”, he added.

In quite an irregular move, the Prime Minister’s office issued the premier’s denial to reporters.
