A Palestinian fighter of the Islamic Jihad movement was killed Tuesday in armed clashes with Israeli soldiers in the Gaza Strip, medical sources told AFP.

Hamuda al Madhun, 23, was killed by gunfire in a shoot-out near the Karni crossing point on the northern border between the Gaza Strip and Israel, the sources said.

Meanwhile, an undercover unit kidnapped Hamas activist Walid Khaled in the West Bank early Tuesday morning, according to Haaretz, which quoted Israeli security sources said that Khaled, a resident of the village of Salfit in the Nablus area, was on their "wanted" list and that he was detained near the Tapuah Junction. Palestinian sources said Khaled was taken from his home.

Israel Radio reported Tuesday that Palestinian militants had been issued with special safety recommendations as a result of Israel's assassination policy. The recommendations included not accepting gifts and limiting contact with family and friends, and came a day after six members of Fateh movement were killed by Israeli tank fire, according to the Palestinian who blamed Israel for the explosion, but Israeli officials denied any involvement.

Haaretz qouted Israeli Transport Minister Ephraim Sneh (Labor) as saying that “the fear gripping Palestinian militants was a sign of the effectiveness of the government's anti-terror measures.”

"These people are first and foremost concerned about their own personal safety," he told Israel Radio. "This is our aim - to put the other side on the defensive."

Meanwhile, 70 Palestinian civilians have been trapped on the road between Ramallah and Nablus in the West Bank due to the Israeli tightened blockade on the region. They have been in the open since Monday afternoon, said Al Jazeera satelllite channel – Albawaba.com
