Violent clashes erupted in the Al Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied Jerusalem when a unit of border guards stormed the holy site, firing rubber-coated bullets and detonating tear gas and stun grenades.
Israel Army Radio said that the protestors had hurled stones at Jewish worshippers at the so-called Wailing Wall.
Al Jazeera satellite channel’s reporter said several Palestinians were injured in the confrontation, that and ambulances were rushing to the scene. The radio report said that seven Palestinians and six policemen were injured.
The clashes erupted after a fundamentalist Jewish group carried out a symbolic laying of the cornerstone of what they call the Third Temple near the Magharba gate in the Old City – Albawaba.com
