Israeli Officials Warn Settlers on PA’s List of 'Terrorists' to Take Safety Precautions

Israeli security officials have warned Jewish settlers whose names appear on a Palestinian list of “Israeli terrorists” to beware, suggesting precautionary measures such as traveling in armored vehicles and changing their daily routines, said the Jerusalem Post on Wednesday.

The PA said on Tuesday that it would present to Israel and the US a list of 50 Israelis accused of “barbaric” attacks against the Palestinians.

The list will be delivered Wednesday during a meeting of Palestinian and Israeli security officials with representatives of CIA, said Tawfiq Tirawi, head of the Palestinian Intelligence Department in the West Bank.

Israeli police spokesman Rafi Yafe said that while it is the responsibility of the army and general security service to “deal with the issue if a request is received, the police will do its utmost to protect the residents of Jewish communities.”

The Council of Jewish Communities refused to treat the list of names seriously and declared that "the entire nation is on that list and not just the names of residents living in Judea, Samaria, and Gaza," said the paper.

Among those appearing on the list are Infrastructure Minister Avigdor Lieberman, Tourism Minister of Tourism Rehavam Ze'evi and Deputy Chief of General Staff Maj.-Gen. Moshe Ya'alon.

According to Israeli media, the list also includes Noam Arnon, head of the Hebron Jewish community, Kach activists Noam Federman and Baruch Marzel, journalist Hagai Sela, and Noam Livnat, brother of Education Minister Limor Livnat.

Since the September 2000 eruption of the latest Palestinian uprising against 34 years of Israeli military occupation, the media has reported that Palestinians have killed at least 125 Israelis with weapons ranging from stones and knives to machineguns and car bombs. Israeli military sources have reported well over 600 injuries to Israelis of Jewish descent.

In the same time period, according to the UK newspaper The Guardian, Israeli soldiers and armed Jewish settlers have killed 13 Arab Israelis and 510 Palestinians with weapons ranging from machineguns and tanks to US-made Apache helicopter gunships and F-16s.

According to an Amnesty International report, nearly 100 of the Palestinians killed were children. In addition, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society has reported over 14,000 Palestinians wounded.

Jewish author Noam Chomsky, who according to a New York Times Book Review article is “arguably the most important intellectual alive,” has been quoted as saying: “State terrorism is an extreme form of terrorism, generally much worse than individual terrorism because it has the resources of a state behind it.”
