ALBAWABA - The Israeli military launched an airstrike near the eastern city of Deir Ezzor injuring two Syrain soldiers the Syrian defense ministry said on Tuesday.

The Syrian Defense Ministry said in its statement: "A little before midnight (2100 GMT) on Monday, the Israeli enemy carried out air strikes on some of our armed forces positions near the city of Deir Ezzor, leaving two soldiers wounded,".

Earlier in July, an Israeli airstrike was carried out near the Syrian capital of Damascus killing two Syrian soldiers. The strike was believed to have targeted military positions around the town of Dimas as well as the Beirut-Damascus highway west of the capital.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the air attacks marked the 20th time Israel has struck targets in Syria so far this year.

Earlier this month, the Israeli army carried out air strikes near the government-dominated city of Homs.

Reports by opposition-affiliated news sites indicated that the sites targeted were located west of Damascus near Qudssaya or As'Saboura. Photos reportedly from the area showed multiple fires blazing after the strikes, the Jerusalem Post reported.

The Israeli army has carried out hundreds of airstrikes on Syria over the years, but rarely ever acknowledged responsibility, yet it constantly reiterates that it would continue to respond to what it regards as Iran's moves to reinforce its military position along its borders.

The last reported attack on Syria was on July 2nd, when the Syrian military reported that Israel targeted sites near the central city of Homs, causing tangible harm but no casualties.
