ALBAWABA- Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip killed at least 115 Palestinians on Thursday, in one of the deadliest single-day escalations in weeks, according to health officials and emergency responders.
The bombardment coincided with U.S. President Donald Trump's visit to the region, as ceasefire talks remain stalled.
In Khan Younis, southern Gaza, 56 people, including women and children, were killed overnight when Israeli forces bombed homes and tents sheltering displaced families, according to staff at Nasser Hospital. Among the victims were 36 children, local doctors said, with entire families reportedly wiped out in the strikes.
The Israeli army said its operations targeted Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad fighters, claiming the attacks were part of preparations for an expanded ground offensive.
Elsewhere, the Hamas-run Civil Defence agency reported more casualties in the northern town of Jabalia, where a health clinic and a prayer hall in the refugee camp were bombed. Thirteen people were confirmed dead there.
Thursday morning, the streets of Khan Younis were filled with funeral processions. A resident described the scene at Nasser hospital to BBC Arabic as “unbearable,” saying the morgue was overflowing and bodies were placed in corridors.
Doctors, overwhelmed by the influx of casualties with severe injuries, were treating patients on the floor due to a shortage of beds. "Tragically, this level of destruction has become part of daily life," the man said, lamenting the continued civilian toll.
Footage shared by local activists showed dozens of bodies wrapped in white shrouds laid out in a cemetery, as an imam led prayers for mourning families.
The deadly wave of attacks comes as indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel continue with no breakthrough, despite mounting international pressure for a ceasefire.
