Israeli soldiers killed a Palestinian youth late Tuesday night in a refugee camp in the West Bank city of Tulkarem. The Israeli Army said that the man was armed with a Kalashnikov rifle.

Israel Radio reported Wednesday the dead man was a member the Al Aqsa Martyrs` Brigades, the armed wing of Fatah movement.

Sources told the Reuters news agency that soldiers shot an approaching armed Palestinian later identified by residents as Qaif Ofeh, 19.

Troops carried out a sweep of the refugee camp, searching for "wanted" activists. Seven were arrested overnight.

A Palestinian doctor in the camp said: "Ofeh was shot from very close range to the head. There are also signs of burns from cigarette butts in his face and stomach."

Later, three Palestinians were moderately injured when Israeli troops opened fire on stone-throwers in the northern West Bank, Palestinian medical and security sources said.

According to the AFP, the three, all in their 20s, were among a group lobbing stones at an Israeli army patrol that had taken over a house in the Tulkarem refugee camp, they said.
