Negotiations with Daesh over the fate of two hostages they are holding are "deadlocked", Japan's deputy foreign minister has said.
AFP has reported that Yasuhide Nakayama, who is leading Japan's emergency response team in Amman, told the media in Amman on Friday that there had been no progress in securing the release of Japanese journalist Kenji Goto and pilot Moath al-Kassasbeh.
"Staying vigilant, we will continue analysing and examining information as the government is making concerted efforts together," Nakayama said.
Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Hiroshige Seko in Tokyo said early Saturday morning that the government was still waiting for new information about the two hostages.
Daesh has demanded that Jordan release prisoner Sajida al-Rishawi, who was part of an attack at a wedding reception Amman in 2005 where 57 people were killed. Her husband successfully detonated his explosive belt, but al-Rishawi's failed to go off. She was subsequently arrested.
Jordan has ordered Daesh to prove that pilot al-Kassabeh is still alive.
