According to PETRA, the Foreign Minister Farouq Qasrawi said that
Jordan is not aware of any secret talks to deprive Palestinian
refugees of their right to return or compensation.
The remarks came in his response to comments made by the
parliament's Palestine Committee.
"Any discussions on the issue of refugees cannot be secret due
to the importance of this issue," he said, adding that Jordan has
investigated reports on this issue.
Qasrawi said that the Palestinian cause is the first cause for
Jordan, indicating that His Majesty King Abdullah II and Jordan are
doing their utmost to ensure the establishment of an independent
Palestinian state on the Palestinian national soil. "Jordan always
affirms the importance of the return of all Palestinian refugees to
their land, the need to compensate them and implement all
international legitimacy resolutions related to their return or
compensation," the minister added.
Qasrawi said that Jordan supports the roadmap, which is backed by
the international community, and which affirms that the Israeli
withdrawal from Gaza should be part of the roadmap.
On UNRWA's services to the Palestinian refugees, he said that
UNRWA's problem is a financial one due to the reduction of the donor
countries' financial support to it. "However, Jordan is exerting
intensive efforts with the donor countries to ensure the
continuation of their support to UNRWA," the minister added.
Members of the committee made comments on improving
infrastructure of Palestinian refugees and on the importance of
continuing support to the Palestinian people under occupation.
