ALBAWABA - A Jordanian-American is among two others who won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, the Nobel jury posted on its official website.

Omar M. Yaghi, Japanese Susumu Kitagawa, and UK-born Richard Robson won on Wednesday the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for developing so-called metal–organic frameworks.

"These constructions, metal–organic frameworks, can be used to harvest water from desert air, capture carbon dioxide, store toxic gases or catalyse chemical reactions," the jury revealed.

On the website, the Nobel Prize wrote, "The laureates developed a new type of molecular architecture. The constructions they created – metal-organic frameworks – contain large cavities in which molecules can flow in and out."

It added, "Researchers have used them to harvest water from desert air, extract pollutants from water, capture carbon dioxide and store hydrogen."
