Jordanian Crushes Pregnant Cousin's Skull to Redeem Family Honor

Police in the Jordanian city of Salt are questioning two men who allegedly killed two of their female relatives, one of them a pregnant woman, in separate incidents on Friday and Saturday, in Deir Alla area, according to the Jordan Times.  

Official sources told the paper that the first incident involved a man in his 30s who reportedly confessed to killing his pregnant cousin in the Deir Alla area on Friday, wounding her in the stomach then crushing her skull with a stone.  

The man then went and turned himself in to the police, claiming to have killed the woman “in the name of the family's honor,” the source said.  

The victim was preparing to be married by her family to any bidder in the village, when someone informed her cousin that she was pregnant, it added.  

“The cousin became enraged and as soon as he saw Basma, the 23-year-old, he stabbed her stomach before crushing her skull with a stone, the report said.  

A team of pathologists comprised established that the victim was six-months pregnant with a baby boy.  

The second murder, the daily said, involved a 35-year-old married woman who was shot and killed by her brother, also in the Deir Alla area.  

The victim received gunshot wounds to her head, neck and arm, reportedly by her brother, while she was visiting her family, the source told the paper, adding that the motive behind the murder had not been established.  

The latest two murders brings to seven the total number of women reportedly killed in murder, suicide and poisoning incidents in Jordan since June began, the paper said – Albawaba.com
