The alleged killer of three American missionaries in Yemen has confessed that both he and the suspected assassin of a leading socialist politician had links with a man who murdered three nuns in the country back in 1998, a source close to the investigation said Saturday.

"Abed Abdulrazzak al-Kamel confessed that he and Ali al-Jarallah had links with Abdullah Ali Nasheri," who assassinated the nuns in Hodeida, in western Yemen, in July 1998, the source told AFP, on condition of anonymity.

Kamel, who according to the source has been transferred to the political security headquarters in the capital Sanaa, fatally shot the three American missionaries at Jibla Baptist hospital in southern Yemen earlier last week and injured a fourth, sources close to the investigation said.

Two days earlier, Jarallah, according to police, shot dead the deputy leader of the Yemeni Socialist Party (YSP), Jarallah Omar, in the midst of a conference of the Islamist al-Islah Party in Sanaa.

Meanwhile, the YSP issued a statement on Saturday in which it vowed to "contribute to the fight against terrorism by peaceful and democratic means."

In addition, it urged other political forces in the country to "engage in a serious and responsible dialogue with the aim of combating terrorism in all its forms and whatever its source." (Albawaba.com)
