Syrian state media and opposition activists said Wednesday that a Kurdish-led alliance captured a hill above the main road in Aleppo from the Nusra Front militant group, Associated Press reported.

The suprise offensive by the Kurdish US-supported Syrian Democratic Forces will likely not be considered a breach in the ceasefire that went into effect on Friday, as the al-Qaeda affiliated Nusra Front and Daesh are excluded from the truce agreement.

The SDF and the Syrian army had halted their offensive in the area for some days before the ceasefire started.

Syrian state TV reported that the forces had captured Castello hill, "cutting supply lines for terrorists" in eastern areas of Aleppo, along with southern parts of Aleppo province.
