Five groups representing Kuwait's Shiite minority have joined forces in order to increase their chances in the next parliamentary elections scheduled for 2007. Kuwait’s Shiites make up about a third of Kuwait’s population and there is currently one Shiite in the 16-member Kuwaiti cabinet. The representative of the Shiite Minority in Kuwait Abdulwahed al-Kafan said that by joining forces, they aimed to prepare for the next general elections in order to get a fair share of seat in the parliament and the cabinet.
