An agreement was officially signed yesterday at the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) granting LaSilkee Virtual Connexion a Class License for the provision of telecommunications services.
The agreement was signed on behalf of the TRC by Her Excellency Ms. Muna Nijem, Chairman and CEO of the TRC, and on behalf of Lasilkee Virtual Connexion by Mr. Hassan Hakeem, Business Partner, with other officials from both sides attending the ceremony,
The signing comes following the TRC Board of Commissioners’ session held on 29/06/2005, which approved the final draft of the licensing agreement and the licensing terms.
LaSilkee Virtual Connexion will offer international long distance communication services to and from Jordan including digital voice services, video telephony, instant messaging, data, and streaming media services, delivered over its advanced, multi-service/multi-access network, the first of its kind in Jordan. The company will offer both prepaid and monthly subscription accounts to its customers.
“The signing of this agreement comes as a direct result of the liberalization of the telecommunications market in the Kingdom, which whilst generating revenues and creating market and employment opportunities, also makes possible the introduction of new telecommunication services and stimulates the development of this critical sector. This form of competition also enhances the role of the sector as an engine of growth both in the Kingdom and the region generally, in addition to the positive benefits to citizens who enjoy advanced technology at lower cost,” Nijem said.
In commenting on the license, Hakeem said: “After obtaining a Class License, LaSilkee Virtual Connexion will seek to link Jordan to other countries; which are already highly advanced in the field of ICT. We will strive to introduce Jordanians to the next generation of technologies not currently available on the local market, thus helping to translate his Majesty King Abdullah II’s vision for Jordan’s future into an affordable reality for Jordanian citizens and businesses”.
“This competition helps to bring choice to the local market, and our goal is to be the carrier of choice among Jordanians. LaSilkee’s next generation network (NGN), will bring to fixed line consumers the same advanced functions that 3G is delivering to mobile users. This technology will enable us to offer end users higher quality services coupled with lower costs,” he added.
LaSilkee’s representative Hakeem thanked the Jordanian Government for securing an attractive investment environment as well as facilitating all procedures. “We really value the amenities provided so far by TRC officials and the Board of Commissioners and we hope to have their continued support as Jordan progresses towards a more balanced, fair and competitive market place,” he went on to stress.
Hakeem pointed out that the initial investment needed to launch LaSilkee's NGN technology and network will exceed $1 million, stressing that the network will be the latest in world class technology to be brought into the Jordanian market.
He also said that the entrance of LaSilkee to the Kingdom will be of benefit to many parties as the company will share a percentage of its revenue with the government, contribute to the transfer of technical know-how, and provide job opportunities to Jordanians in addition to other benefits.
"Our team is comprised of motivated, high calibre individuals with hands on experience in the telecom industry, whom are capable of delivering our services in the most customer-oriented fashion.” Knowing that their technology is new, LaSilkee’s spokesperson said that they will be working closely with the TRC to educate citizens on new services. LaSilkee is also working on building strong alliances with its technology suppliers as well as the operators in other countries in order to share valuable approaches and expertise that will contribute to the development of the ICT industry in Jordan.
LaSilkee's strategy will focus not only on implementing new technologies, but also on delivering an exceptional end user experience. "Our customers can expect responsive, capable after-sales support, accurate user-friendly invoices, customized solutions tailored to their unique needs, and innovative, easy to understand pricing plans, providing excellent value for money,” as Hakeem emphasized.
Hakeem projected the launch of LaSilkee to be in the fourth quarter of the current year, clarifying that the first phase will cater to the B2B sector, and expanding its services to the entire market on a later stage.
“As part of our commitment to develop the telecommunications sector in Jordan, we are confident that our entrance will create a positive change in the sector by delivering an unmatched experience to Jordanians, surpassing anything previously offered in the local market. We are very keen on exceeding our customers’ expectations and meeting their constantly changing needs,” Hakeem concluded.
LaSilkee Virtual Connexion is a newly established Jordanian company created for the purposes of exploiting new opportunities created by the liberalisation of the Jordanian telecommunications market. Saed Taweel, a Jordanian entrepreneur with several prior investments in the telecom sector both in Jordan and abroad, is investing in the LaSilkee venture with the Hakeem Business Group (HBG), a diversified group of Jordanian companies that also has several operating international businesses in the ICT sector.
LaSilkee aims to be a leader in deploying new technologies and high value services to the Jordanian market, such as voice telephony, instant messaging, data and streaming media services; but to first and foremost deliver an exceptional customer experience by focusing on service quality and process management.
