At least 23 people died and more than 60 were wounded when a car bomb went off outside a Shi'ite mosque in the Iraqi town of Musayyib on Wednesday, the Interior Ministry said, according to Reuters.
The suicide attack reported at 4:55 p.m., heavily damaging an area with an outdoor market, a restaurant, a mosque and a bus station in the town, which is located about 60 kilometers south of Baghdad, said police Capt. Muthana Khalid.
The attack came on the last day of the month of Ramadan as people would have been preparing for the three-day Eid holiday, which will start on Thursday. The blast appeared to target shoppers buying fruit and vegetables ahead of the holiday. All the victims of the blast appeared to be civilians, Capt. Muthana Khalid added, according to the <i>AP</I>.
