At least 27 Palestinians were wounded by gunfire from Israeli troops in clashes across the West Bank on Friday, the Palestinian Red Cresecent aid agency said, quoted by AFP.

Just outside El Bireh, around 1,000 Palestinians held a demonstration in which a number of them burned Israeli and US flags before throwing stones at Israeli troops.

The soldiers opened fire in response, lightly wounding five people with rubber-coated bullets and another person in the hand with a live round.

In Al Khader, close to Bethlehem, four Palestinians were wounded by rubber-coated bullets after a bomb went off near an Israeli army jeep.

Hospital sources told AFP earlier that one Palestinian required emergency surgery after being shot in Al Khader clashes.

Haaretz reported, meanwhile, that one Border Police soldier was lightly injured by a rock and received treatment on location in clashes in the flashpoint city of Hebron.

The soldiers were firing rubber coated bullets in response, said the paper, quoting Radio Israel. AFP quoted Palestinian medical sources as saying two Palestinians in Hebron, including a child, were lightly wounded.

Haaretz said also that Palestinian gunmen fired at an Israeli army vehicle next to Tulkarem, causing no injuries among the Israelis, but Palestinian and Israeli sources said a number of Palestinians were wounded across the West Bank, particularly outside the Tulkarem

Also in the Gaza Strip, a mortar shell was fired Friday morning at the Netzarim Jewish settlement and Palestinians shot at the settlement of Gan Or. No injuries were reported in either incident, it added.

Witnesses told AFP that a Palestinian cameraman with the Associated Press news agency was wounded by a stone thrown during the unrest.
