Lebanon: Ex-Finance Minister to form new cabinet

Published June 30th, 2005 - 01:40 GMT

Lebanon's President Lahoud designated ex-Finance Minister Fouad Seniora as the country’s new prime minister Thursday and asked him to form new government. Seniora arrived at the presidential palace shortly after Lahoud completed consultations with parliament members to name the new premier. Of the 128 legislators, 126 legislators nominated Seniora for the job.

Seniora, who was nominated by Saad Hariri to be the new Prime Minister, was a favorite of the late Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. Seniora, a prominent economist, was part of all the governments led by Hariri, who was died on February 14 in a huge bomb blast in Beirut.
