A man suspected of being involved in the deadly Kaftoun shooting died Monday during a raid conducted by security forces in the northern Akkar province.
The state-run National News Agency reported that the Internal Security Forces in the early hours of the morning raided an “isolated room” in Amiriya village, where the man was holed-up.
Videos circulation on social media and messaging groups showed heavy police deployment in the area, with numerous armored vehicles parked in the area.
NNA reported that the ISF encountered resistance from the Syrian, provoking it to open fire on him.
An explosion then happened, killing the man. The NNA reported that the man blew himself up and that he was a 40-year-old named Youssef K.
The ISF has not confirmed the identity of the deceased or provided further details on whether there were other suspects present.
One man has so far been detained following the shooting in Kaftoun in north Lebanon, which took place Saturday and saw three minicipality policemen killed by unknown assailants armed with machine guns.
