LG Electronics, a major player in the global flat-panel display market, announced the launch of its ultra-minimalist, screen-only plasma TV, the PG60 in the UAE market in a press conference held today at the Dusit Dubai Hotel.

The PG60 further confirms LG’s market leading position in the PDP business. In Q4 2007, LG Digital Display Company sales jumped to the company’s quarterly historic high of USD 4.308 billion which is 24.1% increase from a year earlier, powered by rise in sales of plasma and LCD digital TV.

The latest LG PDP is the sleekest TV in the world, said Mr. K. W. Kim, CEO of LG Electronics Middle East and Africa Regional Company. “It looks like a work of art hanging on the wall, and has nothing extra to distract from its incredible picture quality. This TV makes real the dream of having a screen-only TV.”

LG’s PG60, winner of CES ‘Best Innovation Awards 2008’ recently held in Las Vegas, is the first TV to incorporate single-layer technology, creating a seamless, frameless look. Previously, a thick bezel surrounded the screens of plasma TVs, but with the PG60, the screen and TV itself are fused into one. The PG60 resembles a seamless black sheet of glass hanging on the wall.

The PG60 , which the world’s slimmest depth among plasma TVs at only 79mm, uses LG’s invisible speaker system, which not only makes the TV look better, but also sound better. Rather than speakers covered by  unsightly grilles, this unique system, which was carefully tuned by renowned audio expert, Mr. Mark Levinson, provides viewers with amazingly crisp, rich sound quality, using the entire TV as a sounding board.

PG60 is the industry-leading 30,000:1 contrast ratio and fluid motion technology which can view the Dvix contents and Jpeg files through its big screen, can also play MP3 files.

It also uses LG’s latest plasma panels, upgraded for 2008, along with LG’s Dual XD Engine, which allows viewers to enjoy their favourite programmes for long periods of time without causing eye fatigue.

Moreover, LG Electronics has become among the first mainstream consumer electronics companies to achieve the original patented technology for digital TV thus receiving the royalty from other companies that use this technology.

LG’s PG60 will be available through retailers from first week of April in 42-inch at a price of AED 5,299 and 50-inch at a price of AED 8,299.
