One of Tunisia's diplomatic staff was kidnapped in Libya this weekend, according to Agence France Presse.
Embassy sources told AFP that the secretary to the Tunisian ambassador in Libya Mohamed bin Sheikh was kidnapped Friday in the Ain Zara suburb located in eastern Tripoli.
The embassy has allegedly been in contact with Libyan authorities in an effort to free the diplomatic hostage .
"Tunisia is urging Libyan authorities 'to ensure the protection of all employees and agents of diplomatic missions and consulates in Libya.'" read a statement from the embassy.
The restive north African nation has been enveloped in chaos with kidnapping similar to Sheikh's occuring on a relatively frequent basis since the oust of former dictator Moammar Gaddafi in 2011.
