Longines has announced renowned actor and musician Harry Connick, Jr. as its new brand ambassador of Elegance.

A poll conducted by Longines Elegance in America Survey, named jazz musician Harry Connick, Jr. as one of the most elegant men in USA. The consumer survey, which revealed Americans' definitions, thoughts and feelings about elegance, named Connick as one of the modern embodiments of their definition of elegance. As a result, Longines signed the jazz superstar and movie actor to become its newest icon of Elegance.

As defined in the survey, elegance is how you treat others; it is a sense of class, refinement, poise, using good manners and grace. It is not the same thing as being sexy or glamourous, poll respondents said.

Connick joins Elegance ambassadors Audrey Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart and India’s crowning glory Aishwarya Rai - celebrities whose qualities, values and appeal are based on the universal notions of elegance.

Born in 1967 in New Orleans, Connick’s musical career started at the young age of five. He made his record debut with a local Dixieland band at age 10, and studied with local piano masters Ellis Marsalis and James Booker. At 18, Connick moved to New York to study at Hunter college, and later Manhattan School of Music.

His big breakthrough came in 1989 with the film When Harry Met Sally for which he did the soundtrack vocals. The album got Connick his first Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Male Performance. Connick continued to release jazz, vocal, and funk albums with sales of over 20 million, including three Grammy awards and nominations for Tony, Emmy, Oscar, Golden Globe and Cable Ace Awards.

At the same time, Harry Connick, Jr. has enjoyed success in theatrical films and on television. His Hollywood credits include Memphis Belle, Hope Floats and Independence Day.

Longines is a member of Swatch Group Ltd, the world’s leading watch manufacturer and marketer, with no fewer than 158 production sites in Switzerland.
