Four Algerians were charged of conspicuous contempt of religion and imprisoned after three of them ate launch in the fourth person’s restaurant, during the Holy Muslim Month of Ramadan and before sunset. Each of the three diners and the restaurant owner, which were arrested in the city of Bejaia, about 260km east of Algiers, were sent to prison for three months and six months, respectively. The BBC reports that this is the first time that someone in Algeria was actually tried and convicted for not observing the fast during Ramadan.
