The renowned artist Mahmoud Saגdi, one of the founders of the legendary group Nass El Ghiwane and Jil Jilala, has passed away on Monday in Casablanca, at the age of 63, after a continuations kidneys disease.
Saadi was one of the lasts to join the Nass El Ghiwane, “the Rolling Stones of Africa”, as the American producer Martin Scorcese once called them, where he played the lute strings with a 1/2-step mandoline in the band. Shortely after he left the group to become also one of the founders of the popular Jil Jilala band.
<i>Yabiladi</i> reports that Saadi’s music in both these formations relied on a rich and unique combination of traditional Moroccan music with modern influences.
